Exhibition Patrons: The Samson Family!

Meet the Samson family of Samson’s Farm—Dwayne, Allison, and their children John, Emily, and Taylor—this year’s honored Agricultural Exhibition Patrons, recognized for their incredible contributions to farming on the Eastport Peninsula. Residing in Sandringham, you can usually find this dedicated family tending to their land most evenings alongside their yellow lab, Buster. Farming for over twenty years, the Samsons started out cultivating a personal plot before having children and passing down a deep-rooted love and knowledge of growing their own food. Over the past decade, their operation has flourished into a thriving farm, producing traditional root vegetables, a variety of berries, and vibrant flowers through Emily’s Nursery. They also care for a flock of chickens and have raised pigs.
Driven by a homesteading philosophy centered on living off the land and eating what they grow, they deeply value self-sustainability through hunting, gardening, raising animals, and food preservation. Utilizing their own irrigation system to make the best use of the land, the Samsons have continually expanded—evolving from doing everything completely by hand to integrating modern tools while keeping their hands-on spirit alive. Beyond the farm, Allison has shared her passion for agriculture by running the Little Green Thumbs program while teaching at school, having students visit their farm, and she can be found behind the scenes at the exhibition. With a steadfast commitment to passing traditional skills and knowledge on to the next generation, the Samson family exemplifies the heart, hard work, and resilience of Eastport Peninsula agriculture.

Youth Ambassador: Isaac Turner!

Meet Isaac Turner, our dynamic Youth Ambassador for this year’s agricultural exhibition! Nearly 14 years old and being from Sandringham, Isaac’s roots are deep in farming soil: his great-great-grandparents were among the first settlers in the town, which originally began as part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s historic agricultural government program. He’s had a lifetime of involvement in hobby farming with his family—with a special fondness for growing vibrant kale and potatoes—Isaac’s green thumb has blossomed everywhere from his school’s Little Green Thumbs program to the outdoor classroom to helping hatch ducklings. After spending the past two years selling his homegrown vegetables and handmade crafts at a local farm stand, he officially launched his own small business, Isaac’s Crafts and Vegetables. This year, he has expanded his reach through local shops and his farm stand. Be sure to drop by the craft fair this weekend to say hello and support this inspiring young grower!
